Ghost & Goblins, Cats & Dogs
Hey Everybody! Halloween is one of those holidays enjoyed more by people than by pets. You know that the tiny monsters and zombies knocking on the door aren’t real, but Rover and Shadow don’t. Here are a few tips for Halloween safety:
• Keep pets safely inside, away from trick-or-treaters and other Halloween activities. You don’t want your pet to be frightened or feel threatened at the sight of costumed children. Remember that frequently opened doors provide the perfect opportunity for a pet to escape in all the commotion.
• Keep candy safely out of your pet’s reach. Candy, especially chocolate, can be harmful, or even toxic to pets. Instead, have a few of your pet’s treats on hand as a distraction.
• Keep pets away from live flame decorations like candles and Jack O’Lanterns, and restrict your pet’s access to hanging decorations such as streamers.
• Don’t let the family dog accompany the kids on their trick-or-treating. Children may have a difficult time handling a pet during the festivities.
• If you do decide to dress your pet up, make sure to keep an eye on them at all times. Dogs, and especially cats, don’t usually like the constraints of clothing and masks, and may “freak out” if left unattended.
I hope you all have a great Fall, and a safe Halloween!
Till next time, Dr. FrankenSteve
